Southern American style chicken joint.

Hot chicken and liquor from the deep south of America has found it's way to Fulham, London courtesy of Stagolee's - A fairly new restaurant and bar.

We stepped inside and were greeted with an extremely warm and pleasant welcome. With an intimate Fulham setting and images of southern American culture lining the walls, you instantly feel the comfort before the menu has even been looked at.

They have a great selection of south American classics, but I decided to go for the Chicken Platter (£11.95) which consists of 2 pieces of chicken on the bone any heat (classic, hot or tom devil), 2 small sides and corn bread.

For the sides, I opted for fries and the baked mac & cheese. The size of the platter was perfect, not too much and not too little.

Everything except the fries is made from scratch in their kitchen downstairs and you can tell they've put their heart and soul into it - It definitely pays off! They have probably the best 'hot' chicken you'll find in London.

The chicken is brined, dipped in buttermilk and fried in a cast-iron skillet so you get this amazing outer coating and incredible flavour.

If you like your fried chicken spicy then you have to get either 'hot' or the 'tom devil' heat choices and I'm told that 'tom devil' isn't for the faint hearted. You've also got their own made chilli sauces, if it's still not hot enough for you.

Now you can wash all of this down with a choice of their US wines, beers, bourbon and rye. They also serve plenty of moonshine which is a type of notoriously high-proof liquor which you guessed it, originated in America.

Overall, Stagolee's is a welcome addition to the Fulham food scene and you can tell they've put a lot of effort into the authenticity of their dishes.

I'd highly recommend this place and it's well worth a visit if you're a fan of southern fried chicken.
