Indian food in the city.

Hi guys,

Another blog post and another restaurant review!

This time it was to try out a newly launched Indian Restaurant & Lounge called ZeeZain, which is located in the busy area of South Kensington.

Run by experienced entrepreneur Akhtar Miah, the name is a combination of his two sons, Zee and Zain.

It was previously called Kwality, but the restaurant has been completely refurbished and now has a very nice, clean, modern look.

There's a very modest 30 odd seats in the restaurant and they offer a full halal food menu, as well as serving alcohol and if you're interested, they also have a Shisha service which is situated outdoors at the front.

ZeeZain serves modern Indian cuisine with all the ingredients being locally sourced and fresh - nothing is frozen and instead all the ingredients are delivered each morning.

When we got there we were seated next to the window on a well lit table, which made it perfect for taking those infamous Instagram style shots!

Whilst looking through the menu, we were given a lovely chutney platter consisting of Mango Chutney, Mixed Pickles and Mint Sauce with two Poppadum's to get our appetites going.

It wasn't soon after that we knew what we wanted and we decided to start with a portion of their Chilli Garlic Prawns (£6.95) and BBQ Lamb Chops (£12.95).

The Chilli Garlic Prawns were slightly spiced with garlic, onions and green peppers and were absolutely deliciousThe prawns weren't chewy at all and the onions and peppers still had their crunch.

Next up were the BBQ Lamb Chops and I've always found it hard to get really authentic flavoured and well cooked lamb chops. Quite often they're too well done and tend to not have much taste. These were not like that. The flavour and the spice were perfect and they were possibly some of the best lamb chops I've had.

We then moved onto the main dishes and opted for the Chicken Biriyani (£12.95), the Lamb Curry - Indian Railway Special (£11.95) and the Sarson Paneer (£8.95) which the owner was kind enough to offer us, to get a taste for one of their vegetarian dishes.

The Chicken Biriyani was decent sized portion. The chicken was soft, the rice was fluffy and I didn't find it dry, so kudos there. It was nice enough, although it did have an overpowering saffron flavour and it was a bit too much for my taste. I mean if you really like saffron, then you'll love it!

The Lamb Curry was definitely one of the highlights, as the meat was super tender and almost melt in the mouth. It was fairly mild, but it definitely didn't lack in taste.

It went perfectly with the Chilli and Garlic Naan (£3.00) we ordered which made up for the spice.

The last main dish we had was the Sarson Paneer, which was made with fresh spinach and Indian cheese. You can tell the spinach was fresh as it was a bright green and tasted great! The paneer added texture to the dish and it's a good choice if you want something vegetarian.

When we finished eating, the owner asked if we liked Shisha and of course we said yes, so he prepared a special surprise for us outside.

The Shisha was made with a pineapple head, with Blue Mist and Kiwi flavouring inside. It was great and we definitely needed it to help us digest all the food we'd had!

And if that wasn't enough, the waiters kindly brought out two of their desserts for us; a Pistachio Kulfi, which is just flavoured ice cream (£4.95) and Gulab Jamun, which is like an Indian sweet crispy doughnut (£4.95).

Overall, I left feeling very impressed with ZeeZain. The decor was lovely, the background music was pleasant and not too intrusive. The food was great and if you're looking for an Indian cuisine in the city, you won't be disappointed if you head here. I'll 100% be back to try out more of their lovely dishes!
